Canadian actress who plays her role as Cristina Yang on the ABC medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy reports indicate was rushed to the hospital Monday morning after passing out during a weight training.
The 46-year-old actress lost consciousness ten minutes into a voluntary workout at her Atlanta residence.
Emergency crews arrived immediately and Oh was rushed to the Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Sister of the actress told the press Oh appeared healthy before the incident.
“Your heart breaks because it is one of those cases that nothing told you ahead of time that that was going to happen. It is unclear why she collapsed and honestly it was unexpected,” she added.
Oh was cast as Cristina Yang in 2005 in the first season of what became the hit ABC medical series Grey’s Anatomy. Her long-running role on the show earned her both a 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series and a 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.
In July 2009, she received her fifth consecutive Emmy nomination for her work on the series. In August 2013, Oh announced that the program’s tenth season would be her final season.
According to the hospital doctors, the actress is doing fine as they continue to monitor her situation.
